Can I set homework for my GCSE Resits and Functional Skills students?

On GSCEPod, you will find thousands of ready-made assignments, mapped to your subjects and selected exam boards. These are specialist-written, topic-specific tests that combine videos with multiple choice and free text questions.  Importantly, the students won’t have seen these questions before as they have to be set by a teacher. So they make excellent end-of-topic tests or more formal assessments.

After the student completes an assignment, the system will automatically identify their knowledge gaps and build a bespoke boost playlist, full of videos to help them brush up on their knowledge in a specific area.  Because of the personalised nature of the follow-up tasks, many teachers call this our “instant intervention” system.

If you prefer to build your own assignments, you can easily do this by mixing and matching the videos and questions to create something brand new.  You may like to dip into our question bank and pick questions written by other teachers teaching your subject.  Once created, your assignment goes into a library for your school, where it can be used by any of your colleagues. This is particularly handy if you’re sharing the workload and you can even add mark schemes to help create consistency within yours.

Can students test their knowledge without being set work by a tutor?

Absolutely! Our Check & Challenge assessments are specialist-built formative assessments with a unique scaffolded support system, especially aimed at building confidence. The answers are multiple-choice and all self-marking meaning students can take them completely independently and get instant feedback on their strengths and weaknesses.  Detailed feedback is given for every question and the learner is encouraged to learn from their mistake and have a second attempt with the opportunity to go back and revise the Pod if they need support, or to use the hint.

Challenges are designed to be taken multiple times, with an interactive dashboard showing off just how much progress they are making.

Can further and higher educators monitor student activity?

Everything students complete on the site is closely monitored.  In our Monitor and Manage area, you see an overview of student activity on the site, filtered by subject area.   Activity streams provide a live feed of activity within a group, or you can build custom reports to analyse activity for certain cohorts.   At an individual level, you can view every activity completed by a student, from watching videos, completing homework and tackling the formative assessments called Check & Challenges. These insights are great during parent's evening and, as many schools and colleges do, can be used to correlate usage with results to measure the impact of GCSEPod on student attainment.

What login options do you offer for GCSE Resits and Functional Skills?

We offer a range of single sign-on options to allow a seamless transition from your current in-school platforms, to the GCSEPod website.  Office 365 and Google single sign-on can be set up in just a few hours. We also have single sign-on for Frog, Firefly, Classcharts, Satchel, Realsmart and more.  We also offer a more manual login option, where users sign in with a username and password.  Students can set up their own credentials, or we can set up credentials to match their computer login details.

What accessibility tools are provided to support all learners?

Our accessibility toolbar provides a comprehensive set of customisable features to suit every learner.  Once customised, the user’s selections will remain, even if they leave and return to the site, as long as they are using the same device.

Are there any resources that can be used without the internet?

Our award-winning videos can be downloaded to any device, just like on BBC Iplayer.  This means students can save the videos to their devices when they have wifi and then continue to watch them whilst travelling or in rural areas. In some subjects, we also provide activity workbooks which can be downloaded as PDF and printed or saved for offline viewing.
