FAQs
How does Activate benefit me?
When you are in a Activate venue (like the one that sent you the email with the voucher), when you log into the Wi-Fi you may have been sent something for free, or money off your purchase.
You may have noticed that the email features a sponsored brand (this is the brand that is paying for the voucher).
This is because they they want you to learn about their product or service, or even try it out. This way you might go on to buy it again. With lots of venues signing up to Activate, you can expect to start seeing a lot of these vouchers as you visit different outlets.
Imagine getting lots of free drinks and other rewards just for being out!
Who has access to my data?
When you login to the Wi-Fi you are consenting to share your data with the operator of the venue that you visited. They collect information such as your email address and other information that you were willing to share.
Even though the voucher you received may feature the sponsors brand, other than the venue that you visited, they never get to see your personal data, EVER! The email you received was sent directly from the venue operator and should you wish to opt-out, you can unsubscribe at any time.
Why did you get the voucher and not your mates?
When the sponsor agrees to sponsor the vouchers, they select the criteria for who should get one.
This might be based on how many times you’ve visited the venue before, where you say you live, your age, even your interests, if you have agreed to share this information when you logged into the Wi-Fi via Facebook.
If your mates want in on the action, they should log into the Wi-Fi and share this info too. It’s only then do we know who to send the vouchers to.
Is there anything else I should know?
You will have to share your data with the operator of the venue you have visited, as we need to know how to send you the vouchers.
But remember, your data isn’t shared with any other third parties, so you are only getting communications from the places you like to visit.
