Ian Rowe has had a fairly diverse but converging career. Initially graduating with a degree in Pharmacology and starting his career in clinical research. He learned the importance of Evidence Based Medicine and how this would be used to bring new drugs and treatments to market, as well as how this evidence would determine approved pricing. He quickly progressed into Pharmaceutical Sales and Management, and again evidence of efficacy and Quality of Life (QoL) Outcomes was the key differentiation between many similar products.
After 15 years, he moved into the Education Sector to work in school improvement, standardised assessments and the award-winning curriculum and assessment platform GCSEPod, now part of The Access Group.
Over the last 20 years, he has worked with a huge range of incredible solutions, and again, evidence of improved Ofsted ratings, improved pupil outcomes and value for money proved to be the key factors in the decision-making process for schools as budgets continually got squeezed.
In terms of the convergence of career, Ian now leads on partnerships at Access Education with local authorities and their maintained schools, providing support and advice on finance and budgeting solutions. With improved forecasting and budgetary control, this enables schools to be able to recruit the right staff, invest and manage their development, help retain them and encourage others to join. It also allows them to protect the budget to provide the resources needed in the classroom to help every student achieve the best possible outcome. He firmly believes that strong financial management and the suite of Access solutions really does gives schools the freedom to put education first.
