In conversation with Major Players

If you look across the recruitment industry at any one time, you’ll find thousands upon thousands of agencies all working to change the lives of the individuals in their care. At first glance they can seem similar, but take a second to pop the hood and get under the bonnet, and you find that each one is unique, different and with its own individual flair. It’s why we like working with them so much, and especially why we like talking to them. We sat down with Jonathan Levene, the Operations Director of creative recruitment agency Major Players and had a little chat.

What’s your thoughts on compliance and the challenges surrounding it….?

The changes in GDPR and IR35 have definitely presented challenges about how workers are perceived. It’s up to us to ensure we’re following legislation but thankfully there’s lots of technology available to help keep us compliant. The compliance software Access provides is very good and we continue to engage with people to find out what we need to instil in our processes to always be compliant.

Any other challenges…?

Of course, the biggest one being disruptive technology. Some industries will be more susceptible to this, like the hospitality industry for example, however within staffing I think there’s a knowledge base that is required from recruiters so I don’t think it’s going to work in the recruitment space, but that’s doesn’t mean people won’t try, and that’s disruptive regardless.

So will technology continue to dominate the landscape…?

Yes I think so. The recruitment industry has changed and is now embracing technology and understands the need for it to fit in around what we do rather than replacing what we do. Good technological advancements need to continue in a way that brings the recruiter, candidate and client together.

So how does Access technology help you do that…?

Well we use Access RDB as our CRM for data and recruitment, and naturally, our data is the most valuable part of our business. Configurability is also great and one of the main selling points and in addition, we use Tempest for running all our payroll in back-office.

And what benefits do you think innovate technology like that has brought Major Players…?

Because of the integration between front and back-office software systems, we have all our timesheets generated within our CRM which then feeds into Tempest. We’ve saved huge amounts of man hours in our finance department and reduced human error from manual data entry and multiple entry points. We’ll soon be using Access RDB for our invoicing too and taking these manual tasks away from our finance teams and consultants gives them time to service our candidates and clients better. In such a competitive market like recruitment, this is key and by automating tasks we can enable them to offer a service that does actually differentiate us form the competition.
