We were delighted to join Longbenton High School on their INSET day this academic year to hear from their teaching staff about their excitement in launching Access GCSEPod, a powerful learning tool designed to enhance student engagement and reduce teacher workload.
Access GCSEPod
Maintained school
Longbenton High School is a comprehensive school situated in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne, catering to students from a wide range of backgrounds. At the start of this academic year, the school integrated Access GCSEPod into their curriculum as part of their continued effort to adopt innovative tools that improve outcomes across all subjects. The school is dedicated to providing a high standard of education and ensuring students are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed. With its user-friendly design and mobile accessibility, GCSEPod is set to enhance student engagement and provide much-needed support to teachers.
Duncan Carr, a dedicated teacher at the school, shared his enthusiasm for bringing the platform to Longbenton, having successfully used it in a previous school. Duncan highlighted what excites him most about the impact GCSEPod will have on students’ learning, particularly in improving revision practices and reducing teacher workload, while enhancing overall engagement across the school.
Kim Glabeke, another teacher at Longbenton, expressed her confidence in integrating GCSEPod into her lessons. She emphasised the benefits it brings in enhancing her teaching, allowing students to take greater control of their own learning. Kim is particularly excited about how the platform will help students prepare for their exams by offering resources like webinars on revision techniques. “I’m really excited about using it not just in lessons but helping them use it independently,” Kim said, adding that Access GCSEPod will be a real asset to the school community.
Shaun Edge, who has used Access GCSEPod in other schools before, is equally enthusiastic about the platform’s evolution. He highlighted the improved interactivity and the instant feedback feature that encourages students to engage more deeply with their learning. “It’s come on a lot further with the new evolution in technology,” Shaun noted, explaining how question-level analysis allows teachers to pinpoint student weaknesses and address them more effectively. He believes this targeted approach helps close learning gaps and gives students the best opportunity to achieve improved results.
Benefits of Access GCSEPod
The integration of Access GCSEPod at the beginning of the school year will prove to be a significant advantage for Longbenton High School. Research has shown that students who consistently use GCSEPod from the start of the year see an average improvement of one grade higher compared to non-users. This is a remarkable achievement that can be attributed to the platform’s ability to reinforce classroom learning through engaging videos, quizzes, and question-level analysis.
One standout feature is the instant feedback students receive, allowing them to better understand their strengths and weaknesses. Teachers also benefit from detailed question-level analysis, enabling them to identify gaps in students’ knowledge and address these areas to improve overall performance. As Shaun Edge emphasized, “Using question-level analysis helps find where those gaps are in order to close them and therefore give pupils the best possible opportunity to get better results.”
As a resource, Access GCSEPod is helping the school community to enhance learning, improve results, and ensure that students are fully equipped for success in their exams.
